The ViMy Foundation: Beaverbrook Vimy Prize
The Beaverbrook Vimy Prize competition is the Foundation’s flagship program. Providing young students with a historical perspective second to none, the annual scholarship brings together youth from Canada, the United Kingdom and France, so that they can better appreciate the intertwined history of their three nations and come to understand the bravery and sacrifice of war.
The Beaverbrook Vimy Prize is awarded on the basis of essay submissions and interviews. Participants must be 15-17 years old with a 70% grade average at school and proven leadership skills. Winners take part in an intensive scholarship program in Europe, participating in educational seminars and museum events, including visits to the iconic Vimy War Memorial and other historic battlefields and gravesites, in England, Belgium and France.
The Energy project: through a young lens
PhotoSensitive, in partnership with the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA), is turning its collective lens onto the issue of energy. As David Suzuki says, "Meeting humanity's energy needs without dangerously interfering with the global climate system is one of the great challenges of the 21st century." Climate change is one of the key issues of our times, and energy, in its creation and consumption, plays a huge role in this. There could not be a better time for PhotoSensitive to be focusing on this hot topic.
One hundred photographers from across Canada will be invited to submit photos that will feature in an exhibition, book, DVD and dedicated website. There will also be a substantial video component, which will feature in the DVD, on the website and also be a part of the exhibition's interactive element.
We will also be producing a side-project called The Energy Project: Through a Young Lens, which will contain images created by school students across Canada. This side-exhibition will tour schools and communities across the country.
