2021 CAIS Governance Guide

Through extensive consultation with experts and experienced board members, CAIS has developed this manual to support best practices in governance in Canadian Independent Schools. The 2021 Governance Guide includes a comprehensive suite of approximately 100 resources, including sample policies, guidelines, positions descriptions and/or checklists that provide Boards with key guidance for their governance practices.

Ahead of the Game (for new Heads)

This interactive resource features text and lively, dynamic, and thought-provoking videos of 24 different Heads offering key insights for new Heads. Content includes developing your personal journeys and well being, navigating relationships with both your board and faculty/staff, and managing adversity and change. Additional videos offering insight into crisis management and strategic planning are in development for inclusion in the resource in the near future.

Student Demographic Data Collection: A Resource Guide

This Guide supports individual CAIS schools by laying out a roadmap on how to navigate the process of collecting student demographic or identity-based data. It is designed to serve as a handbook and provides guides, tools (e.g., student demographic survey templates) and tips.

External and Internal Sample Resources

CAIS offers resources within CAIS Connect to meet emergent needs of schools. Our current selection of resources is composed of both samples provided by schools as well as resources commissioned by CAIS. Resources are organized according to the 2021 CAIS National Standards.
