On the CAIS website, navigate to the Leadership Institute page and select the appropriate LI session.

When is registration open, go to the appropriate LI session and then click on the Register button. You will receive a confirmation email documenting your registration input.

The program must be completed within five (5) years to earn the Diploma. Requests for extension for financial or compassionate reasons can be made to Rachael Brownell Swain at rbswain@cais.ca.

Modules are typically 10 hours in length. Occasionally a module may be longer to meet the requirement of an externally offered certification course.

Facilitators include: Heads of Schools, Senior Leadership Team members, University or College professors, and external consultants.

Participants can apply for one module equivalence for graduate course work at a recognized university or an Additional Qualification/Principal’s Additional Qualification course. Applications to the Executive Director must include: a description of the content and time in course, evidence of completion and the comparable CAIS module.

There is no required sequence for taking Diploma modules.

Most modules may include light pre-work, such as:

• Assigned readings
• Gathering information through resources or a brief interview
• A short reflective exercise or self-assessment

Facilitators will share any required pre-work in advance of the session.

If a module has a prerequisite or specific eligibility requirement, this will be clearly noted in the module description.

All Diploma participants (who start the Diploma Program in 2021) are expected to complete the five (5) required modules:

1. Education Program Foundation* 
2. Finance*
3. Human Resources
4. Faculty and Staff Culture* 
5. Pluralism I

Asterisked (*) modules are required modules from the previous LI Diploma program.

Five additional modules from any category are required to complete the Diploma. As part of the CAIS Foundations for School Leadership Program: Designing a Practice, participants will be asked a series of questions that will help guide their choices. We recommend that participants take modules in a 2:1 ratio during the summer to maximize flexibility of module choice in the Fall and Spring sessions as not all modules are offered in each session.

As well, participants must show evidence of Completion of a Child Protection Program (more info here).  

No. Due to facilitator availability and the cost to stage sessions, a rotation of modules are offered over the course of a year, with required modules offered multiple times.

We still recommend keeping the automatic confirmation emails you receive upon registration for your own records of your course and method of payment.
