• Participants new to the Diploma Program and intending to complete all the requirements in the program are required to begin with the CAIS Foundations for School Leadership Program: Designing a Practice. While the Foundations program is essential for those aiming to complete the CAIS Diploma, participants are encouraged to take individual Leadership Institute Diploma Modules of interest. This allows for personalized professional development.

Evidence of Completion of Child Protection program

CAIS is committed to protecting students. Support is offered through the CAIS Accreditation Process and Professional Learning programs including:

• Child Protection-related Indicators of Effective Practice embedded throughout the 2021 CAIS National Standards.
• The CAIS Diploma in Independent School Leadership requires evidence of completion of child protection training as well as a completion of a CAIS Child Protection workshop to support schools as they consider related school policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Mental Health First Aid (Standard and Youth-Focus) is offered as a CAIS Leadership Diploma elective module. It is facilitated by Christina Yurchuk, Learning Facilitator at the Michener Institute of Education at the University Health Network (UHN). Connections are made to the CAIS 2021 National Standards.
• In some provinces, completion of a Child Protection training program is a mandatory component of teacher education and certification maintenance programs.

The workshop will be offered regularly at Leadership Institutes, starting in July 2023.

1. I have completed the mandated training through the Ontario College of Teachers and the Commit to Kids Sexual Abuse Program (CCCP). How do I show evidence?
   Upon completion, you would have received confirmation. Please complete this Google form.
2. I completed the Boundary Training program- Creating a Culture of Safety through SOS 360. How do I show evidence?
   Upon completion, you would have received confirmation. Please complete this Google form.
3. I completed Respect in School through the Manitoba Department of Education. How do I show evidence?
   Upon completion, you would have received confirmation. Please complete this Google form.
4. I started the Diploma before July 2021, does this new requirement apply to me?
   It is strongly encouraged but not required. This is required for all Leadership Diploma participants who started as of July 2021.
5. I completed child protection training, why do I need to do a workshop?
   The CAIS Child Protection workshops allow for in-depth discussion and reflection on how the training can be used in CAIS schools using case-study methods. The workshops will allow aspiring leaders to simulate how to enact best-practices in child protection in real world situations.
6. I’m not doing the CAIS Diploma in Independent School Leadership, can I still attend the Child Protection workshop?
   Yes, it is open to anyone who has completed either child protection training program (listed above). It is a requirement for the Diploma graduation.
7. How often is the workshop offered?
   The CAIS Child Protection workshop will be offered in person during the Summer Leadership Institute. It may also be offered during Leadership Institutes.

• Participants who complete the 5 required modules and 5 elective modules (10 in total), earn the CAIS Diploma in Independent School Leadership.
• Note that effective Summer 2020, Accreditation is no longer a required module.
• Participants who have completed Accreditation can count it as 1 of the 10.
• Participants who have not taken Accreditation can take a different elective module.
