Good governance is essential to the sustainability and continuous improvement of independent schools. CAIS recognizes the critical role that Governors and Trustees play in school leadership. We are grateful to the dedicated volunteers who bring their diverse backgrounds and commitment to enhancing our school communities.

To support Governors in independent schools, CAIS offers a variety of programs throughout the year, including:

  • Governance Guide (free digital version for members; print version available to members at a discounted rate and to non-members for a higher fee)
    • Member schools can access a free digital version through CAIS Connect. Non-members can order a print copy here.
  • New Chairs Orientation (exclusive to CAIS Member Schools)
  • CAIServices Advisors (available to all schools)
    • Our advisors have a track record of success in various areas, including governance, strategic planning, and leadership development. Find out more here
  • Governance Workshops (free for members; available to non-members for a fee)
    • Interactive sessions designed to enhance the governance skills of board members. Non-CAIS members can participate for a fee of $75 if affiliated with regional partners (QAIS, CIS Ontario, ISABC) or $150 for all other participants. See details below.
  • Fireside Chats on Emerging and Important Issues (free for members; available to non-members for a fee)
