Safety Trends That Will Futureproof Your School

Independent schools are increasingly faced with new and more challenging risks. Yet, school safety policies are often buried within long HR Manuals, OED Manuals – and more. So, what are the safety trends administrators should consider to best “future proof” their school? In this webinar we will evaluate new risks schools face, how to get in front of them and easy updates to school policies to mitigate them. We will tackle topics such as:

  • Hiring full-time & seasonal staff and screening for safety and effective onboarding.
  • Fieldtrip safety & homestays.
  • Residential life safety challenges.
  • Abuse prevention policies.
  • Athletic programs & risks associated with seasonal coaches.
  • Social media and cell phone best practices.
  • Use of tutors, third parties and other outside organizations that pose risk to a school’s reputation.

This interactive session will include breakout sessions and case studies to discuss how to immediately and effectively address controversies and issues that arise at independent schools. Come with your questions and experiences to share.

Data Protection 101: Building Practices Around Principles

Measuring performance against vague standards can often be difficult.  This is particularly true with respect to complying with Canadian data protection laws, where compliance largely concerns adhering to ambiguous data protection "principles" rather than specific requirements.  To help with that, this session is designed to demystify those data protection principles.  Attendees will be provided with information regarding some responsibilities relating to each principle as well as practical tips regarding the type of steps they can undertake to start to enhance their compliance.
