Guidelines & Fees
All members must always meet the following requirements
The Board of Governors is elected and structured to oversee the mission, vision, values, and strategy of the school. The school’s day-to-day operations are managed by the school’s senior administration that reports to the Board of governors (usually through the Head of School).
Heads and Chairs* attend the annual Heads and Chairs Conference during which an Annual General Meeting is held. (*New Chairs should attend; Experienced Chairs may appoint another member of the Board)
The School meets the National Standards and supports CAIS’ vision, mission, and values.
The School undergoes an accreditation process every seven years.
The Head of School participates in an accreditation review at least every seven years and supports accreditation by regularly offering school leaders for Visiting Committee reviews.
The School participates in annual Research Projects: Benchmarking and Compensation Surveys.
The School pays the annual fee before the AGM.
The School submits an Annual Membership Report.
All members are encouraged to support the following programs and services:
- CAIS leaders attend the annual CAIS National Leaders Conference.
- The School supports joint projects that are endorsed by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Specific projects include the following:
- Student Leadership Conferences for Middle and Senior School students
- Collaborative Boarding Project
- Athletic tournaments
- Leadership Institute
- Additional research projects (available to participating schools only)
*Any material failure by a school to meet the above requirements will be reviewed by the CAIS Board of Directors and could, at the CAIS Board’s discretion, lead to suspension or revocation of the school’s membership.
The membership fees for CAIS are based on the number of students enrolled in your school and attendance at the annual Heads and Chairs Conference and AGM.
Note: The Application Fee of $1000 is payable at the time of the application. Applicant schools also cover the travel costs associated with the Candidate Review Visit.

Annual Fee per student $19.00 (Minimum fee of $3200)
Annual registration for the Head and Chair/Board member to attend the Annual Conference and AGM.
Accreditation Visit Expenses (charged in the year of the accreditation visit)
Candidate Schools are required to meet all of the Criteria as well as the Membership Guidelines
Candidate Schools have up to three years to complete the full accreditation process, including the Visiting Committee review
Candidate Schools must meet all CAIS Standards prior to becoming an Accredited Member.
Candidate Schools who hold Candidate status do not vote at the Annual General Meeting
Annual membership fees begin upon acceptance as a Candidate School and are pro-rated on a calendar basis
Candidate Schools are required to meet the CAIS Policy on Usage of Logo.
