Strengthen Your School Leadership

CAIS values the constant and deliberate quest for excellence, and we recognize the vital leadership role that governors play, in partnership with Heads, in the success of our schools. We want all of our schools to have strong Heads who focus on supporting the students of the present, but we also want strong Boards that focus on supporting the students of the future.

The Governance Guide include new learning on a number of areas, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Head Transitions, and Consent Agendas.

CAIS members and non-members can purchase a hard copy here. And CAIS members can also view the full PDF in CAIS Connect here.

Middle School Leadership Camp

The Middle School Leadership Camp is now fully subscribed with 130 student participants from 19 CAIS schools and registration is now closed!

This year’s CAIS Middle School Leadership Camp invites students to participate in “Launching into Leadership”. Students will interact with peers from various schools across Canada, and

be have a unique opportunity to develop their leadership potential surrounded by like-minded students within the amazing Onondaga Camp lake setting.

This year we are thrilled to have Andy Thibodeau, a passionate, authentic, and charismatic inspirational speaker with an emphasis on the idea that leaders care for others. Since 1992 Andy has been to over 3000 junior & senior high schools, conferences, universities & colleges in every Canadian province and 40 states! Every year, over 105 schools, over 30 youth leadership conferences, plus 40 or more university, college, camp, and community organizations are inspired by Andy! He has appeared at all 10 provincial student leadership conferences & 34 state conferences! Andy has spoken at two US national youth leadership conferences and eight Canadian national student leadership conferences. Andy's message are complemented by his experiences as a student leader, as a past director of a leadership camp, as a parent of children in school, and his active community involvement. His shows are part pep rally, part comedy show, part inspirational keynote, part hands-on leadership training.

Students will also participate in various workshop sessions which include a look at communication skills, leadership styles, organization and planning of events, mindfulness and meditation, as well as take a closer at how they are perceived as a leader. Workshop presenters will help students become engaged in discussions, challenge minds to think outside the box, as well as encourage students to take risks. Sessions are designed to provide students with basic leadership skills which students will be apply once they return to their respective schools.

While minds will be challenged, let’s not forget about the spectacular amenities that adorn Onondaga Camp, including the popular zipline, high ropes, archery, canoeing, ball hockey, and the water trampoline. The Onondaga counsellors will keep students laughing and entertained with evening entertainment in both traditional and non-traditional fashion. Campfires, singalongs and group games are sure to be a hit.

We hope you will be among the many schools to attend this year’s camp. “Launching into Leadership” is the perfect opportunity for Middle School students to help build connections and foster a sense of leadership, as they explore the leader within themselves.
