Strengthen Your School Leadership

CAIS values the constant and deliberate quest for excellence, and we recognize the vital leadership role that governors play, in partnership with Heads, in the success of our schools. We want all of our schools to have strong Heads who focus on supporting the students of the present, but we also want strong Boards that focus on supporting the students of the future.

The Governance Guide include new learning on a number of areas, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Head Transitions, and Consent Agendas.

Heads and Chairs Conference

This past October, Heads and Chairs from across the country gathered together in Winnipeg, Manitoba for the CAIS annual Heads and Chairs Conference at the historic Fort Garry Hotel. The evening before the conference began, new Heads, mentors and new Chairs had the opportunity to gather and network during a beautiful meal hosted by Balmoral Hall School. Thank you to Joanne Kamins and staff for providing such a delightful experience for all.

The official opening of the conference began with an unforgettable evening at the powerful and impactful Human Rights Museum where attendees had the opportunity to explore exhibits in their own time frame and network with their colleagues.

During the conference, attendees spent time discussing and examining relevant and timely topics such as unique value proposition, cyber security and risk management, through workshops, presentations, and two panels. This year the keynote speakers were Kristen Hadeed, CEO of Student Maid and Michael Fullan, OC, Education Advisor to the Premier and Minister of Education in Ontario and prolific, award-winning author.

Special thank you to the 2017 Heads and Chairs Planning Committee Members Lori Binder (Gray Academy of Jewish Education), Joanne Kamins (Balmoral Hall School) and Jim Keefe (St. John’s-Ravenscourt School).

Next Step Program

CAIS is committed to preparing leaders today to lead schools of the future. This requires a new set of knowledge, skills, networks and experiences. In order to achieve this goal, we are pleased to announce that CAIS will be running a fourth cohort of the Next Step program beginning this July. This two year program is designed for leaders who have at least three years in a leadership role, have the support of their Head of School, and have demonstrated a commitment to professional development.

Stay tune for more information coming your way about the Next Step Program.

Heads Institute

The Heads Institute 2018 will be an opportunity for Heads to join their colleagues for a retreat in Victoria to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing Heads of Schools today. The program is designed to have time for conversations, self reflection, resource sharing and uplifting engagement in a supportive environment.
