Strengthen Your School Leadership

CAIS values the constant and deliberate quest for excellence, and we recognize the vital leadership role that governors play, in partnership with Heads, in the success of our schools. We want all of our schools to have strong Heads who focus on supporting the students of the present, but we also want strong Boards that focus on supporting the students of the future.

The Governance Guide include new learning on a number of areas, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Head Transitions, and Consent Agendas.

CAIS members and non-members can purchase a hard copy here. And CAIS members can also view the full PDF in CAIS Connect here.

National Leaders Conference - 2018

The National Leaders Conference is a three year program. The first year was attended by all National Networks from our schools and the second year the Academic Leaders gather together. In this third year of the program, leaders in the Operations Networks are invited to gather together to share and learn with one another from Sunday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 17 in Montreal, Quebec. This includes leaders in the areas of Business Officers, Admissions, Advancement, Marketing/Communications, and Human Resources.

  • Do you want to come to Montreal and take part in the largest gathering of CAIS operation leaders?
  • Do you want to talk about relevant issues occurring within and across these Networks and come up with practical and useful solutions to take home with you?
  • Do you want to reconnect with old friends and make new friends?
  • Do you want to understand what it truly means to combine collaboration and creativity for sustainability?

If you answered YES to any of the above, then you need to REGISTER for the 2018 National Leaders Conference today!

This year we are thrilled to welcome two keynote speakers:

Jean David from Quebec is the former marketing Vice-President for Cirque du Soleil and is considered to be one of the pioneering forces behind their creation and development. “Above all, he is a communications and idea man who has taken on the most daunting of challenges: understanding our environment and creating solutions to the issues confronting us.”

Ewan McIntosh from the United Kingdom is the passionate and energising tour de force behind NoTosh and author of How to Come Up With Great Ideas and Actually Make Them Happen. Ewan examines “how can operational teams put their school plans into action, and how they might create more opportunities for people to turn their ‘one day…’ dreams for school into ‘Day One’ pragmatic strategy?”

We are also thrilled to announce a panel on the third day of the NLC that will be examining the idea of the Changing Landscape in the World of Education.

The conference will be complete with catalytic conversations on topics such as cyber security, building a positive staff culture, the importance of unique value propositions for financial sustainability, staff recruitment, engagement and retention, millennials, and school culture surrounding customer service and business mindedness.

Engaging workshops, speed innovation sessions, and specific national network sessions round out the programming, in addition to two evening receptions that allow participants to digest all that they have learned while socializing with colleagues.

Over the course of the next few months, you will be introduced to more of the innovative and insightful program, put together by many of your peers. Be sure to monitor the website for up-to-date information.

Special thanks to the 2018 NLC Planning Committee, Chair Derek Logan (Kingsway College), Laura Authier ( St. Michaels University School) Kelly Chow (Mulgrave School), Chad Holtum (Glenlyon Norfolk School), Anne Marie Kent (Halifax Grammar School), Patti MacNicol (Upper Canada College), Barb McLean (The Bishop Strachan School), Susan Orr-Mongeau (The Study), Paul Prieur (St. John’s-Ravenscourt School), Zahra Valani (Hillfield Strathallan College) and Kalie Whitaker (Meadowridge) for all their hard work and dedication in making this conference powerful and productive.
