Strengthen Your School Leadership

CAIS values the constant and deliberate quest for excellence, and we recognize the vital leadership role that governors play, in partnership with Heads, in the success of our schools. We want all of our schools to have strong Heads who focus on supporting the students of the present, but we also want strong Boards that focus on supporting the students of the future.

The Governance Guide include new learning on a number of areas, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Head Transitions, and Consent Agendas.

CAIS members and non-members can purchase a hard copy here. And CAIS members can also view the full PDF in CAIS Connect here.

Canadian Boarding Collective

In 2011, when the Canadian Boarding Collective, then known as the Collaborative Boarding Project, was created, our Canadian boarding schools had seen three consecutive years of declining boarding student enrolment. Six years later, boarding is alive and well. 2017-2018 marked the fourth consecutive year that total boarding student enrolment has increased, and for the first time in many years, Domestic Canadian boarding enrolment increased.

With the Canadian brand’s strong presence and perceived value in international markets, Canada is the first choice when international families are looking at study destinations. This is a good news story for CAIS boarding schools, but the work of our collective is far from done!

The Canadian Boarding Collective is in the final year of its current, three-year Strategic Plan and we are excited to have begun the process of developing our next Strategic Plan. This process will be driven by the engagement of our five key stakeholder groups, as we look to conquer new challenges facing Canadian boarding students, like the long term sustainability of domestic Canadian boarding schools, diverse and robust international marketing platforms, and new and valuable research projects, just to name a few!

It is our goal to fully engage the leaders of our CBC member schools in conversations that will both benefit them in their own strategizing and inform our strategic plan development process.

Thank you to the CBC Strategic Plan Task Force:

2017-2018 marked the sixth year the Canadian Boarding Collective has been reporting on trends in enrolment through the annual Enrolment Data Report. Each year, the 27 member schools of the CBC participate in our national effort to track boarding student enrolment. This collaborative sharing of information has provided us with a strong picture of the enrolment landscape for Canadian boarding schools and helps to inform the CBC’s strategies and tactics.
