Biography

Val Pighin is an honours graduate from the Networking Administration Program at Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario. Following graduation, Val was hired to design and implement a networking system for a small corporation with 15 retail locations across Canada. Once completeing this project, she continued with the company for five years in a Business Administration capacity, working in the areas of Human Resources, Finance, and IT.

In 2006, Val continued a career in the areas of Administration and Finance after reloacting to Barrie, Ontario. She spent over five years with an accounting firm as a Tax Preparer and Executive Assistant.

Val joined CAIS in the summer of 2012 as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, Anne-Marie Kee. Over the span of two years, she had the opportunity to be present at Board meetings, conferences, Learning Institutes, and Committee meeting strengthening her understanding of the Independent School community and the important role that CAIS plays in that community.

Additionally, over her first two years, Val was responsible for many aspects of the accreditation process. She acted as a liason between the school and the Visiting Committee members in planning and coordinating the logistics for the accreditation visits, and preparing the team with the Internal Evaluation Reports. She assisted in gathering, editing, and completing the various sections of the Visiting Committee Reports and has been fortunate enough to be present in the Evaluation Council meetings and Board meetings where these Reports have been reviewed and debated. This process has further enhanced Val's understanding and knowledge of the CAIS National Standards and Effective Practices, as well as the internal structure of Independent Schools and the strengths and challenges within them.

In July 2014, Val was appointed to the Accreditation Coordinator position.
