Strengthen Your School Leadership

CAIS values the constant and deliberate quest for excellence, and we recognize the vital leadership role that governors play, in partnership with Heads, in the success of our schools. We want all of our schools to have strong Heads who focus on supporting the students of the present, but we also want strong Boards that focus on supporting the students of the future.

The Governance Guide include new learning on a number of areas, including Human Resources, Risk Management, Head Transitions, and Consent Agendas.

CAIS members and non-members can purchase a hard copy here. And CAIS members can also view the full PDF in CAIS Connect here.

Simon Bruce-Lockhart

Simon Bruce-Lockhart retired in June 2015 after a 42-year career in Canadian independent schools, 26 years of which were spent as a Head of School (Albert College, Shawnigan Lake School, Mulgrave School and Glenlyon Norfolk School). Prior to becoming a Head, he was the Director of Admissions and of Advancement at Lakefield College School, and a teacher and house director at Ridley College.

During his career, Simon served on the executives of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools, the Federation of Independent School Associations of British Columbia and the Round Square.

Simon graduated from Yale with a degree in English and, after retiring, attended Royal Roads University, earning his Certified Executive Coach designation in November 2015. The following January, he founded Head’s Colleague Consulting to follow his passion: supporting school leaders through coaching, advising and consulting.
