LEARNING STRATEGIST (JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL)


REPORTS TO: Director of High School
POSITION GROUP: Faculty
STATUS: Ten-Month Full-Time

The Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is an accredited co-educational private day school on a ten-acre campus in Calgary’s Cougar Ridge area, serving over 700 students from Preschool through to Grade 12. CFIS is the province’s leading French Language Immersion school, and is one of Alberta’s top ten elementary schools, with a Fraser Institute ranking last year of 7th out of 665.

CFIS’s rigorous academic program is taught in a caring and supportive full French immersion environment that is rich with learning experiences from languages and sciences to sports and the arts. CFIS students are encouraged to develop their intellectual, physical and creative potentials to become caring and self-reliant young citizens who contribute positively to the world.

CFIS’s over 100 teachers and staff are proud of the school’s 43-year history and are committed to providing exceptional FLI education. We are seeking a well-qualified individual to fill the position of Learning Strategist for our Junior and Senior High School.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor of Education supplemented by Special Education courses
•    Alberta Teaching Certificate or Interim Professional Certificate
 
Core Areas of Responsibility:

•    Support department members, including Director, Curriculum Leaders, and teachers, with regard to student learning
•    Consult with teachers about students’ learning needs
•    Provide individual student and group learning support
•    Consult with parents and provide ongoing communication when appropriate
•    Maintain working files on students who require support
•    Manage administration of  final exam accommodations for Junior and Senior High School students
•    In collaboration with teachers, students, and parents, create, implement and monitor students’ Individualized Learning Action Plans
•    Support student transitions into the Junior and Senior High Schools
•    Provide best-practice professional development for CFIS faculty with respect to strategies to support student learning
•    Coordinate accommodations for Grade 9 PATs and Grade 12 Diploma Examinations
•    Provide academic and social/emotional counselling to students as needed

•    Excellent communication skills in both French and English
•    Exemplary professionalism in dealings with all stakeholders
•    Interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and further the common goals of CFIS’s mission, vision and values
