Cultivating a Culture of Inquiry: Practices to Sustain the Spirit of Investigation in Early Learning and Child Care Settings

During the Cultivating a Culture of Inquiry discussion, Ann Pelo, an internationally known teacher, educator, program consultant and author, will share her thought on developing pedagogical practices that support educators to be researchers and that give rise to inquiry-based curriculum grounded in children's investigations. 

Continuing Ed Summer AQ Course 2013

This year's 2013 UOIT Summer AQ course runs from July 2-26 and is fully online. This course is excellent opportunity for professional development for your teachers, as it deals with both blended and fully online courses and integrating technology into the curriculum.  

Teachers do not need to be OCT qualified to take the course, but those who are receive the AQ qualification on their OCT transcript. 

Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) 

The Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) is inviting applications from Canadian teachers (K-12) to attend weather and oceanography education workshops in July 2013.  Since 1994, CMOS has selected Canadian teachers to participate in these workshops, which are organized by the American Meteorological Society. Specifically designed for teachers, these two-week workshops use current science, real-world techniques, and expert instructors; teachers are provided with a wealth of classroom-ready ideas and plans.

The Maury Project is a physical oceanography workshop held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland from July 7 to 19, 2013 This workshop is sponsored by the AMS, NOAA and the US Naval Academy. The deadline for applications for the Maury Project is March 8, 2013.

Expenses while on the workshops are covered by AMS/NOAA, CMOS and either the Royal Canadian Geographic Society (RCGS) or the Canadian National Committee/Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research
(CNC/SCOR). In addition, travel subsidies for Canadian participants are also provided by CMOS and either RCGS or CNC/SCOR.

Recognize Canada's Outstanding Educators with the Gift of Thanks
Celebrating graduation season this June, and as part of their ongoing efforts to make Canada a "Graduation Nation," Pathways To Education has launched "Give the Gift of Graduation" to recognize the outstanding contributions of educators and mentors who help students graduate from high school and realize their full potential. Current high school students, recent alumni and all Canadians are invited to visit the Pathways Give the Gift of Graduation Wall on Facebook and post a short story, video clip or photograph to say thank you to a special teacher, mentor or coach who made a difference in their life.

The theme of the Convention is “Inspiring Global Leadership”.
The program will cover important aspects of leadership that embrace global concerns. It is expected that an international audience of 1500 leaders in education will attend, including elementary, secondary, Catholic and independent school principals.

Summit on Environmental Sustainability in Independent Schools 
June 25 - 28, 2013
The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut

Save the date for the Summit on Environmental Sustainability, offered by NAIS and The Hotchkiss School. The summit is designed specifically for experienced sustainability professionals at NAIS member schools. You will: 

  • experience an outstanding educational program that blends presentations, discussion, and experiential learning opportunities; 
  • share ideas and network with colleagues from the independent school community; and
  • help generate new ideas and solidify the priorities for advancing environmental sustainability in independent schools
Registration for the summit will open on January 21 on the NAIS website, where you can also see the draft program. The registration fee is $575 includes meals, break refreshments, a reception, field trip transportation, and dormitory housing at the Hotchkiss School.
