National Student Leadership - Expect the Best
“CAIS schools encourage involvement of all students in leadership programs.” (effective practice 2.8)
CAIS is committed to facilitating opportunities for student growth and leadership. Our second accreditation standard focuses on the co-curricular life of member schools. CAIS schools should provide a wide range of activities where all students are engaged in areas outside of the classroom.
CAIS offers two opportunities for national student leadership:
1. Senior Leadership Conference - For Students, By Students
The Student Leadership Conference is designed for students by students. Every spring, approximately 130 Canadian independent school student leaders come together come together to develop their leadership skills, complete a service project, and get to know other like-minded leaders from Canada's top schools. With direction from a staff advisor, students from a host school develop programming, schedule speakers and organize trips to showcase their area of the country for the week of the Conference.
2. CAIS Middle School Student Leadership Conference
In the fall of 2012, we will hold our inaugural Leadership conference for Middle School students and faculty. The theme for our conference is "The Power of Positive Leadership" or "P2L". The committee is hard at work finalizing influential, age-appropriate key note speakers and qualified workshop leaders from across the country to enlighten both students and advisers and to assist them and their school in promoting Positive Leadership skills for Middle School students and faculty.
